You’ve booked your first training session with Mars Saves Dogs—congrats! You’ve taken the first step toward a more peaceful, well-mannered, and connected life with your dog. To make the most out of your session, a little preparation goes a long way. Here's how to set your dog—and yourself—up for success.
What to Bring
High-Value Treats: Soft, smelly treats your dog loves (like tiny bits of chicken or cheese). Training is a reward-based experience!
A Standard Leash: Please avoid retractable leashes. A 4-6 foot leash works best for safety and control.
Your Dog’s Favorite Toy (optional): For dogs who love play as a reward.
A Calm Environment: Choose a space with minimal distractions for the first session (we’ll increase difficulty over time).
What to Expect
Your first session is about building trust, not just teaching commands. We’ll begin by observing your dog’s behavior and energy, assessing their comfort level, and discussing your goals. I’ll explain how I use science-based, force-free techniques, and we’ll work at a pace that’s right for your dog.
This is not a one-size-fits-all process—each session is tailored to your dog’s needs, history, and personality.
Before the Session
Give your dog a chance to go potty beforehand.
Avoid feeding a full meal right before—we want your pup to be food-motivated!
Keep the vibe calm and positive—no big play sessions or stressful activities beforehand.
What You’ll Learn
You'll leave the first session with:
A deeper understanding of your dog’s behavior
Practical handling skills you can use immediately
A personalized plan tailored to your dog’s development
Confidence in how to communicate with your dog using positive reinforcement
This Is a Team Effort
Training doesn’t end when I leave—it continues with you. The more involved and consistent you are, the faster the results. But don’t worry—you won’t be alone. I’ll provide you with the tools and guidance to keep momentum going between sessions.
Let’s Get Started!
I’m here to help you and your dog thrive. If you’re ready to create a calm, connected, and confident canine companion, your first session is the perfect place to begin.
